Scope of Work
The Challenge
The primary challenge was to blend two distinct styles, Industrial and Scandinavian, within an 85 sqm 1-bedroom apartment, ensuring it felt spacious and functional for both living and a creative professional's workspace. Maintaining an open, airy feel while incorporating robust industrial elements required careful balance.
Our Solution
We achieved this by strategically applying exposed concrete textures and matte black metal fixtures against warm oak wood flooring and soft, minimalist Scandinavian furnishings. Custom, integrated workspace design and judicious use of built-in storage maximized space efficiency, creating distinct zones without visual clutter.
Project Story
Designing a 1-bedroom apartment in City Walk Residences, Dubai, presented a unique opportunity to fuse the raw aesthetics of industrial design with the comforting warmth of Scandinavian principles. Our client, a creative professional, sought a living space that would double as an inspiring workspace, reflecting their artistic sensibilities while offering a serene retreat from the city's dynamism. The initial brief emphasized a cozy yet edgy loft vibe, a concept perfectly suited for the vibrant urban environment of City Walk. We focused on creating an open, airy feel, even within the confines of an 85 sqm footprint, ensuring every element contributed to both form and function.
Our approach for this Dubai industrial loft design began with a meticulous space analysis. City Walk Residences are known for their contemporary architecture and proximity to urban amenities, making them ideal for professionals seeking a balance between lively city life and comfortable living. For this particular 1-bedroom unit, maximizing natural light and visual flow was paramount. We started by defining key zones within the open-plan living area, allowing for a seamless transition from relaxation to work. The client’s desire for exposed concrete wall textures became a foundational element, providing that distinct industrial edge right from the outset. This raw material choice not only serves an aesthetic purpose but also offers a textural contrast to the softer furnishings and natural wood elements that would soon be introduced.
Integrating a creative workspace at home was a central requirement for the client. We designed a bespoke desk area that integrated seamlessly with the living room, ensuring it felt like a deliberate part of the design rather than an afterthought. This involved careful consideration of scale and material continuity. The desk itself features a solid oak top resting on matte black metal legs, echoing the larger design language of the apartment. Ample, yet discreet, storage solutions were incorporated to keep the workspace clutter-free, essential for fostering a productive environment. The placement near a large window ensures abundant natural light for daytime work, reducing the need for artificial lighting and enhancing well-being.
A core element of the Scandinavian apartment interior Dubai project was the selection of materials. Warm oak wood flooring was specified throughout the apartment, providing a unifying, inviting base that immediately counterbalanced the industrial concrete. This choice contributed significantly to the 'cozy' aspect of the brief, adding a natural texture and a sense of warmth underfoot. Matte black metal fixtures were consistently applied across lighting, door hardware, and custom shelving units, reinforcing the industrial aesthetic without overwhelming the space. These material choices weren't just aesthetic; they were selected for their durability and ease of maintenance, crucial considerations for a busy professional.
For the bedroom, the blend of styles continued, creating a truly tranquil and functional space. A minimalist platform bed, framed by a soft grey fabric headboard, became the focal point. The exposed concrete texture was subtly introduced on one accent wall, creating depth without dominating the room. Soft, layered textiles in muted tones – think charcoal, off-white, and natural linen – were chosen to enhance the Scandinavian comfort. Custom-designed floating shelves in dark wood provided practical storage while maintaining the room's airy feel. The balance between the raw and the refined was meticulously maintained, ensuring the bedroom served as a genuine sanctuary.
The City Walk 1BR renovation focused on delivering a space that embodied both the client's professional needs and personal style. This meant sourcing specific furniture pieces directly from manufacturers that aligned with both the industrial robustness and Scandinavian simplicity. From a sleek, low-profile sofa in a neutral tone to a series of iconic pendant lights featuring exposed bulbs and black metal finishes, every item was curated. The custom-designed joinery, including built-in shelving units and a media console, utilized a combination of dark wood veneers and matte black accents, tying the entire aesthetic together. The project successfully transformed the 85 sqm apartment into a highly efficient, aesthetically cohesive, and deeply personal environment.
